Amy Precious
Amy Precious (b. 2002, Cottingham, Beverley) is a contemporary British artist based in Hull, England.
Known for her large-scale, colourful atmospheric works, Precious primarily uses oil pastels on canvas and wooden boards. She is best recognized for her exploration of visual and sound art, where she documents personal and collective experiences through the lens of synaesthesia, utilizing colour as a unique language to evoke sensations and emotions. Her approach to contemporary drawing captures complex, abstract notions that merge the worlds of visual, sound, and sensory art.
Precious's artistic practice is defined by an exploration of the human spirit, focusing on political, societal, and cultural moments. Her works are deeply rooted in her local surroundings, often responding to events in Hull, while also incorporating influences from her travels, particularly to Málaga, Spain.
Through her use of oil pastels and acrylics, Precious engages with themes of human connection, nature, and spiritual transformation. Notable projects include her meditative work on human relationships with nature, developed through field recordings and sensory observations, which form the basis of her explorations of life's emotional and spiritual journey. Her pieces reflect moments of everyday life, such as walking home, bus journeys, or simple interactions in parks, which become meditative experiences fostering reconnection with the world around us.
Amy Precious has exhibited her works in several local venues, including the Art House Gallery in Hull (2022), Brew Café in Hull (2023), and the Unthinkable Film Festival in Hull (2024). She has also showcased her works at the Hull Institute of Arts Degree Show in 2024. Her participation in these exhibitions highlights her ongoing commitment to exploring the intersections of visual art, sound, and human experience, solidifying her place in contemporary artistic discourse.
